The first community compost workshop was built from caring hands of dedicated volunteers together with local people.

Food for the Eath was born in 2013 in Knyajevo, Sofia, Bulgaria, as an initiative for community composting in the neighborhood.

This was a deep personal response and commitment of Irena in trying to find a solution how to compost on site, when it was not possible anymore for her to continue composting in the yard.

The begining was difficult and chalenging, but the begginer’s good luck didn’t late. The concept “Food for the Earth – good for all” in 2013 was awarded in European Commision’s contest: “World you like Chalenge” as a national winner and received a certificate for a top-ranked climate solution.
